Fresh Air Without Wasting Valuable Heat

As homes become better insulated and more airtight, effective ventilation becomes increasingly important.

An MVHR system continuously extracts stale, moisture-laden air from areas such as kitchens and bathrooms while supplying fresh filtered air to living areas and bedrooms.

Before the extracted air leaves the property, heat is transferred through a heat exchanger to help warm the incoming fresh air, allowing the property to remain properly ventilated while recovering heat that would otherwise be lost.

The system needs to be carefully designed around the individual property to provide the correct airflow and operate effectively.

Why Consider MVHR?

A correctly designed MVHR system can form an important part of a comfortable, energy-efficient home.

Continuous Fresh Air

Continuous controlled ventilation throughout the property.

Filtered Incoming Air

Fresh incoming air passes through the system’s filters.

Heat Recovery

Recover heat from outgoing air before it leaves the home.

Whole-Home Ventilation

A balanced ventilation system designed around the complete property.

Moisture Management

Extract humid air from kitchens, bathrooms and other wet areas.

Energy-Efficient Homes

Particularly suited to modern, well-insulated and airtight properties.

Designed Around Your Home

MVHR isn’t something that should simply be added at the end of a build.

The performance of the system depends on good design, correct airflow rates, suitable duct routes, careful installation and proper commissioning.

We look at the property as a whole, considering its layout, construction and ventilation requirements before determining the right approach.

For new builds and major renovations in particular, getting MSER involved early allows the MVHR installation to be considered alongside the wider electrical and building works.

Why Choose MS Electrical & Renewables for MVHR?

MVHR doesn’t operate in isolation from the rest of your property.

As experienced electrical and renewable contractors with growing involvement in new builds and renovation projects, MSER can consider your ventilation system alongside the wider electrical, energy and building requirements of the project.

Our focus is on developing a solution around the individual property, installing it carefully and ensuring the finished system performs as intended.

Ideal for New Builds & Major Renovations

MVHR is particularly well suited to modern properties designed with high levels of insulation and airtightness.

Planning the system at an early stage allows duct routes, unit location, electrical requirements, ceiling voids and ventilation terminals to be considered alongside the rest of the build.

For renovation projects, the property and proposed works can be assessed to determine whether MVHR is appropriate and how it could be incorporated.

What is MVHR?

Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery is a whole-home ventilation system that continuously extracts stale air and supplies fresh filtered air. Heat from the outgoing air is recovered and used to help warm the incoming fresh air.

Is MVHR suitable for every home?

Not necessarily. MVHR is particularly suited to well-insulated, airtight properties and is commonly considered for new builds and major renovations. The individual property needs to be assessed.

Is MVHR just for new builds?

No. It may also be possible to incorporate MVHR into existing properties, particularly as part of a substantial renovation where suitable duct routes can be created.

Where does MVHR extract air from?

Extraction is generally concentrated in areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and other wet rooms, while fresh air is supplied to living areas and bedrooms. The exact layout is designed around the individual property.

Does an MVHR system require maintenance?

Yes. Filters and other components require ongoing inspection and maintenance in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements.

When should MVHR be considered for a new build?

Ideally as early as possible. Early planning makes it easier to coordinate the unit position, duct routes, electrical requirements and ventilation terminals with the wider build.
